The Finish Line Crowned Best Place to Work in TV!
It’s official! The Finish Line is one of the best places to work in the UK broadcast industry. Not just our words, but those of Broadcast magazine, which just gave us several accolades at their annual Best Places to Work in TV awards! (We came 3rd for Training, Development and Resources; and won first place for both Leadership and Planning and for the Non-Indies category.)
These awards would be a titanic honour for any post-production company and its employees, but for our team, it’s the culmination of more than a decade’s hard work. Early in our founder, Zeb Chadfield’s career, he began working long hours, often squeezing jobs that should take two or three days into one. Then he suffered a mental breakdown. It was while recovering that Zeb resolved to change the status quo, to give people working in post-production something to do together besides trading industry horror stories.
That’s why The Finish Line was founded in 2011. To deliver incredible post-production services, all while doing everything we can to look after and support our talented team. We were founded on the principles of family values, kindness, knowledge-sharing, and doing great work. Today, we have taken this company from an idea of what this industry should stand for, and made it into a reality.
While other facilities are still founded on exploiting passion and enthusiasm from their employees for the shareholders’ gains, we choose to nurture everyone and encourage a different approach.
A lot of the time, that means fighting for what is right. We have hard conversations with clients to ensure every artist works for a healthy amount of time each day. We want everyone to feel they have the space they need for work to be done properly. And we want everyone to prioritise spending time with loved ones, rather than working late. To do this, we have both recovery time and smarter pipelines in place, with rates structured to encourage remote and unattended work. That incentivises our clients to give artists the space and freedom to work in a way that suits their needs.
Going against industry norms wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, but winning these awards is a good start. And the proof, as they say, is in the post-production. Across the last twelve years, The Finish Line has produced mindblowing visuals for all major broadcasters and streamers with the team specialising in high end Documentary series and Film.
We’re beyond thrilled that The Finish Line has been recognised as a Broadcast Best Place to Work. Ultimately though, we hope for a post-production industry in which our practices aren’t noteworthy and every company truly cares for its team. It’s about the way we support and encourage each other, while delivering incredible-looking pictures, that will truly make a difference in this industry.
