Talent: Grade and Online by Steve Alexander

Brief: Grade and Online 3 x 60′ episodes for BBC2

How it was done: Victorian Bakers follows modern bakers as they live the lives of their Victorian predecessors. The three part ‘Living History’ series encompasses a wide time period and the client asked for a distinct grade for each episode to set it apart. Grading on Baselight, episode 1 uses warm hues to encapsulate the golden early Victorian era. Episode 2 by stark contrast is blue and gritty as the industrial revolution takes hold and episode 3 is clinical and saturated to show the extravagance of the turn of the century.

The online involved much rostrum work of archive stills. Utilising Pan and Zoom we were able to use every pixel of sometimes inferior quality historical archive. Using Avid symphony paint tool and masks we were able to remove many 20th century items such as light switches and hoses to aid the viewer to become fully immersed in the programes.
